At the Con

Hey all how's it going? Sorry we haven't posted at all this weekend, but we've been at Dragon*Con! For those of you who live under a rock, Dragon*Con is a huge Sci-fi/Fantasy convention that goes on right here in downtown Atlanta (that's in Georgia). Anyhoo, it's quite possibly the best collection of freaks, geeks, and hotties ever gathered into four hotels. You'll see every costume from Master Chief to Superwoman in any of the three hotels and in general around the buildings. They have panels with the stars from Battlestar Galactica, C3PO (who is hysterical), and even panels on Japanese rock (we went to that one). Stars such as Ron Glass, Lou Ferrigno, Patrick Stuart, and William Shatner showed up this year to sign autographs and some to participate in celeb panels. All in all, it is one of the best events of the year, following closely behind Halloween (A.K.A. Girls Dress Like A Whore Day) and Christmas (I love free crap!). Alex will post pictures sometime soon, probably tonight, but i just wanted to throw this together for a quick briefing. We'll be throwing together all we've been working on in the past couple of weeks and hopefully get our video podcasts out there. Well, just wanted to get this out there. Catch you later.

New Changes?

he Horde doubtlessly doubles in size today, as players rush to join the winning team courtesy of Blizzard's newly-activated faction change service for World of Warcraft.

First announced back in June, the faction change service allows Alliance players to switch to the Horde side of things, choosing a new race on the opposing side and transferring over with all of their experience and equipment intact. The service runs $30, and includes a makeover session so you can tailor your lovely new Horde character to your liking. Supposedly the system will also allow Horde characters to be transferred to the Alliance side, but why anyone in their right mind would do that is beyond me.

You can hit up the link below to read Blizzard's extensive, two-part FAQ on the process, covering everything from faction-specific equipment to the fate of your non-combat pets. I would have tried out the system myself, but apparently the account I've not accessed for months has been perma-banned for "intentional exploitation."

Publisher o f Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men comics agrees to buyout offer from multimedia giant behind Mickey Mouse, ABC, Miramax, and more.

The Magic Kingdom will soon see an influx of immigrants, as The Walt Disney Company today announced an agreement with Marvel Entertainment to acquire the comic publisher and its stable of over 5,000 characters. The deal is valued at $4 billion in cash and Disney stock.

Both companies are established players in the gaming world. Disney Interactive Studios has been publishing game adaptations for Disney films like G-Force and Hannah Montana: The Movie and is also branching out into original properties like the upcoming racer Split/Second.

Marvel doesn't publish games itself, but it frequently licenses out its characters to a wide variety of publishers. Currently, the comics company is providing characters for new and upcoming titles from Activision (Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2), Capcom (Marvel vs. Capcom 2), Sega (Iron Man 2), and THQ (Marvel Super Hero Squad).

In a conference call with analysts today, Disney executives fielded questions about their plans for the acquisition. And while they mentioned the need to respect deals that were already in place, there were hints that Disney might look to replace Marvel's licensing partners in the future, where appropriate.

"On the video games front, [Marvel has] some what we see as smart licensing agreements with some of the best video game manufacturers in the business," Disney president and CEO Bob Iger said. "And while we have been steadily moving in a vertically integrated direction, we don't rule out the possibility of a blend of licensed games, as well as self-produced and self-distributed. And what is nice about this is that as some of these deals near expiration, we have the luxury of at that time considering what is best for the company both from a financial perspective, from a quality perspective, and an exposure perspective."

Both companies' boards of directors have signed off on the acquisition. However, it still must be approved by Marvel shareholders and government regulators.

Ok now if Disney gets marvle and square-enix creates a game for them we can have A kingdom hearts style game. With Final fantasy characters scattered throughout the game. Edsel will be in heaven.
